The first trailer for Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara’s buddy comedy Hot Pursuit premiered on Thursday. In the movie, Witherspoon plays a cop who is assigned to protect Vergara’s character, a major witness in a drug-dealing case. Watch below!
With Witherspoon’s police officer being largely inept and a cartel on their chase, hijinks of course ensue. In the preview, we see Vergara shocked at Witherspoon’s small size, saying she could fit into her pocketbook like a puppy, comparing her unexpected bodyguard’s granny panties to a diaper, and trying to seduce a man with “lesbian stuff.” For her part, Witherpoon’s cop gets flustered when she sees a penis, and in one desperate moment, they try to freak out men by explaining what happens when a woman has her period.
Vergara and Witherspoon, who is up for an Academy Award at the Oscars later this month, filmed the movie in New Orleans last year, where they became fast friends. They spent the production documenting their adventures together on Instagram, and then happily did so again when recently returning to the Louisiana city for reshoots.
The film is a return for comedy for Witherspoon after dramatic films like Wild and The Good Lie, while it marks Vergara’s biggest movie role to date. Hot Pursuit is slated to open in theaters on May 8. Check out the trailer below, and tell us what you think!
