Uma Thurman has responded to the frenzied speculation about her recent red carpet appearance. On Thursday’s “Today Show,” the actress was asked about the attention paid to her so-called “unrecognizable” face when she attended an event for her new series “The Slap” earlier this week. Watch the video below.

As Gossip Cop pointed out at the time, it really didn’t seem as though Thurman’s appearance warranted the baffled and accusatory coverage it generated, like the Daily Mail headline, “What has Uma Thurman done to her face?” Especially since the actress looked like herself at an event just a few weeks ago, making a lot of the “plastic surgery” speculation seem silly. On Thursday, Thurman looked like… Thurman while promoting “The Slap” on the “Today Show.”

“There were some headlines, saying you looked different than you usually do… what do you have to say about it?” asked host Savannah Guthrie. Thurman replied, “I don’t know. I guess nobody liked my makeup. I’ve been doing this for years and years and years. People say things nice and they say things mean. It’s just like, whatever. You take the good with the bad.”

It seems like much of Monday’s startling appearance can be attributed to Thurman wearing her hair slicked back and mostly forgoing makeup except for red lipstick. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the actual explanation. By the way, “The Slap” also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Melissa George, Thandie Newton and Zachary Quinto. The eight-part series will examine the repercussions of a moment when an adult man slaps a child at a barbecue. Thurman talks about it, and her face, in the video below.
