Patricia Arquette, who has a transgender sister, is slamming the media’s treatment of Bruce Jenner in the wake of the news that he is transitioning from male to female. See video below.

Arquette’s younger sister Alexis officially became a woman nearly 10 years ago, a process that actually began 10 years before that (see photo from 2006 at right). Like Jenner, Arquette and her siblings are in the entertainment industry, so the family has first-hand experience dealing with a public transition through the glare of Hollywood. And from what she’s seen of the coverage surrounding Jenner so far, Arquette is not happy.

During an appearance on Wednesday’s “The Meredith Viera Show,” the host points out that “some of the tabloids have been cruel to Bruce Jenner in the way they have dealt with his decision making,” and Arquette completely agrees. “These newspapers, these magazines that are being so disrespectful, they should be ashamed because, really, they’re on the unforgivable side of history, and what they are doing is pathetic and immature and repulsive,” says the Oscar nominee.

Arquette adds, using female pronouns, “You have to be so brave to live this truth of who you are. If Mrs. Jenner is transitioning, I give all my support to her, and love and appreciate everything she has given to America, and her bravery, because she is fighting a fight for a lot of kids.” The actress has more to say on the sensitive topic.
