Jon Stewart announced that he will be leaving “The Daily Show” on Tuesday’s episode, and Gossip Cop now has full video of the segment. Watch below!

As Gossip Cop reported, word of Stewart’s decision first leaked following the show’s taping earlier in the day. Comedy Central released a statement confirming the star’s departure, but noted no time table has been set for his exit, other than that it will occur sometime later this year.

It wasn’t until the end of the episode that Stewart revealed his plans on-air, acknowledging that people watching likely already know the news. Speaking about the “incredible opportunity” he was given 17 years ago to “pilot this wonderful franchise” after Craig Kilborn left, Stewart admitted, “Seventeen years is the longest in my life I’ve ever held a job by 16 years and five months. The upshot there being I’m a terrible employee.”

He then said more seriously, “But in my heart I know it is time for someone else to have that opportunity.” Stewart confirmed they’re “still working out details” of his exit, and it could be as soon as July or as late as December. As for what’s next, Stewart said he has no “specific plans.” “I’ve got a lot of ideas, a lot of things in my head,” he said. “I’m going to have dinner on a school night with my family, who I have heard from multiple sources are lovely people.”

Stewart continued, “I’m not going to be here [now] and try and sum up what this place has meant to be over the years. I couldn’t do that,” stressing that there will be plenty of time down the road to say thanks, as he’s “not going anywhere tomorrow.” “But,” he said, “this show doesn’t deserve an even slightly restless host, and neither do you. I don’t think I’m going to miss being on television every day. I’m going to miss coming here every day.”

“It’s been an absolute privilege, the honor of my professional life,” Stewart went on. “I thank you for watching it, for hate-watching it, whatever reason you were tuning in for. You get in this business with the idea that maybe you have a point of view and something to express, and receive feedback from that is the greatest thing you can ask for, and I thank you.”

So, now it’s officially the beginning of the end for Stewart on “The Daily Show.” Watch the full video below. What do you think of Stewart’s decision?
