IFC is putting down roots in Portland.
For the second time in its run, the cable network has handed out a two-season renewal for cult comedy hit Portlandia.
The renewal for the Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen vehicle takes the Lorne Michaels-produced series through its sixth and seventh seasons in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Each season will again consist of 10 half-hour episodes. (The series earned a two-season pickup in 2013 that took it through seasons four and five.
Director Jonathan Krisel, who co-created the series with Brownstein and Armisen, will continue to serve as director on the series that is entirely filmed in Portland. The trio — along with Karey Dornetto and Graham Wagner serve as writers. SNL mastermind Michaels exec produces via his Broadway Video banner, which is also behind FXX freshman comedy Man Seeking Woman, Fox's ratings underperformer Mulaney as well as Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers in addition to Hulu's The Awesomes.
"We are so excited to get to do more Portlandia with IFC," Armisen and Brownstein said in a joint statement. "Getting to work with Jon and our talented writers and crew, it really is our favorite thing in the world. Also, we get to spend more time in Portland!"
"Portland may be a place where young people go to retire, but IFC is not retiring Portlandia," IFC president Jennifer Caserta said. "And if you order a book from Toni and Candace at the Feminist Bookstore right now, it might even arrive by the time season seven rolls around."
Season five of Portlandia airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on IFC, with seasons one-four on Netflix.
