Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch Dies: Coldplay Pays Tribute to the Rapper

As the music world mourns the loss of Beastie Boys' Adam "MCA" Yauch, rockers Coldplay paid tribute to the late musician the best way they knew how: Through song.

During their Friday night show at the Hollywood Bowl, Chris Martin and his band delivered an emotional performance of the Beasties' classic "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)."

Inviting fans to sing along to the slowed down, piano-driven ballad, Martin name-checked the late Yauch midway through the performance.

Coldplay's tribute came just hours after news broke that Yauch had passed away at age 47.

Best known by his stage name, MCA, Yauch found out he had a tumor in his salivary gland in 2009, and valiantly battled cancer in the years since.

Survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu, and their daughter Tenzin, Yauch founded the Beastie Boys with his friends Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz in 1979. The group's most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2, was released last May.
