Kathie Lee Gifford is NOT “ready to walk” away from nor is she “done” with the “Today” show, despite reports. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this complete fabrication. The rumor began in one of the tabloids this week, and was quickly regurgitated by an equally disreputable webloid. But no matter how often or where the claim is repeated, it is still a lie and NOT true.
The story first ran in the National Enquirer and was quickly picked up by its sister company RadarOnline. According to the two outlets, Gifford had a “huge fight” with NBC News President Deborah Turness because the big boss didn’t air an 18-minute musical the “Today” show anchor had written. Both RadarOnline and the Enquirer allege the musical was “supposed to air before NBC’s Peter Pan Live in December,” but was scrapped, and when it didn’t even air on the “Today” show, a fight “erupted,” leaving Gifford “furious” and “betrayed.” There’s a HUGE problem with these claims, but we’ll get to it in a second.
RadarOnline and the Enquirer say Gifford is so ticked off that the musical never ever aired, she “would love nothing more than moving to another network in an act of revenge.” The problem these two pathetically sloppy outlets have is that millions of people tuning into the “Today” show on December 29 saw the musical live. That’s right, the musical ALREADY AIRED. Gossip Cop even wrote extensively about the musical, which featured the likes of Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Tamron Hall, Carson Daly, Willie Geist, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, and even Gifford’s former “Live” co-host Regis Philbin.
The Enquirer made up the whole premise that Gifford is “done” with the “Today” show because her musical never aired, when it reality it already did. And once again, RadarOnline shamefully didn’t fact-check its sister company’s blatant lies. When Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for the “Today” show about the misguided reports, we were told exclusively the two outlets’ reports were “total nonsense.”
