Blake Shelton has slammed critics of American Sniper in the wake of Michael Moore’s controversial comment calling snipers “cowards.” The country singer and “Voice” star made his feelings very clear in a series of tweets on Monday.
“I can’t WAIT to see American Sniper!!!” wrote Shelton, adding, “Proud to support our military.. Period.” The musician then tweeted, “Sickens me to see celebrities or anybody slam the very people who protect their right to talk sh*t… #truecowards.”
Actress and TV personality Ali Sweeney chimed in with support, leading Shelton to tweet, “’@Ali_Sweeney: .@blakeshelton you’ll hear a big HELL YEAH from me. #church’ Damn right sis!!”
As Gossip Cop reported on Monday, Moore stirred enormous debate when he said that he’d been taught as a child that “snipers were cowards” and not heroic, which many people saw as a direct criticism of American Sniper, which broke January box office records over the weekend. Moore later praised the film but defended his position on snipers in a long Facebook post.
“I think most Americans don’t think snipers are heroes,” wrote Moore. “Hopefully not on this weekend when we remember that man in Memphis, Tennessee, who was killed by a sniper’s bullet.” Thousands of Twitter and Facebook users bashed Moore for his remarks, including Rob Lowe (who said of the filmmaker, “He’s kidding, right?”) and now Shelton. What do you think?
