It's official! Michael Sam recently dropped to one knee to pop the question.
Rumors of Michael's engagement to boyfriend Vito Cammisano began swirling as the couple celebrated Michael's 25th birthday in Vatican City, Italy on January 7 – where the proposal is believed to have taken place.
"@Vitcamm Thank you for saying yes," Michael Sam Tweeted January 16 with three diamond ring emojis.

Vito also posted a photo to show off the new hardware on this finger.
Michael certainly made a statement by proposing above St. Peter's Square. The Pope expressed his latest stance on the issue of gay marriage during a mass in Manila, Philippines on Friday.

"The family is threatened by growing efforts on the part of some to redefine the very institution of marriage. These realities are increasingly under attack from powerful forces which threaten to disfigure God's plan for creation," the Pope said, according to MSNBC.
The U.S. Supreme Court also made a monumental announcement Friday by agreeing to rule on nationwide marriage rights for same-sex couples in all 50 states.
Michael became the face of openly gay athletes when he announced his sexual orientation prior to entering the NFL draft. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, thus becoming the first openly gay player in the NFL.
Michael and Vito shared a televised kiss on ESPN when he got the phone call he'd been drafted in May 2014.

But, the team cut him after training camp and he went on the join the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad, from which he was eventually cut too.
