It's a sad day at Happyland.
The MTV comedy series created by Ben Epstein and exec produced by Peter Pan and Smash duo Neil Meron and Craig Zadan has been canceled after one season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The soapy teen comedy explored the underbelly of one of the country's most popular theme parks and those who work there. The project centers on Lucy, a cynical teen whose mother makes a living as a fairy-tale princess, and explores the realities of growing up and falling in love while living in a make-believe world.
The series debuted in September and averaged a barely-there audience with a 0.2 among adults 18-49 and 370,000 total viewers despite being packaged with MTV's successful comedies Awkward and Faking It.
Critics were not kind to the series during last year's Television Critics Association tour stop, in which the show was criticized for its incest-like storyline. The end of the pilot featured a reveal that the show's leading lady and her young suitor may be brother and sister — after they kissed.
MTV, meanwhile, still has original comedies Faking It and Awkward, the latter of which was renewed for a fifth and final season. On the drama side, MTV's inventory includes Finding Carter, Teen Wolf, Eye Candy, Shannara and Scream.
