President Obama is NOT frantically trying to get George Clooney to run for office, despite a new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can bust the story, which first appeared in the National Enquirer, the same outlet that recently reported that Clooney was planning to adopt three kids, a complete fiction. Now the Enquirer thinks it has a big political scoop. It doesn’t.

According to the magazine, Obama is “desperate” to recruit Clooney as a candidate, “and the Oscar winner is all for it.” A so-called “source” tells the Enquirer, “George and Barack are a lot closer than people think. Rarely a week goes by they don’t talk.” Huh? Really?

“Barack totally respects George and thinks he has a brilliant political mind, so he and Michelle have invited George and Amal for dinner at the White House,” continues the tabloid’s source. “Michelle thinks Amal is adorable, and Barack was impressed, too. Now, with a savvy wife at his side, George is a serious contender as a candidate!”

Interestingly, the Enquirer never bothers to say what public office Clooney would supposedly try to win. That’s because the tabloid would rather pad its articles with phony quotes from know-nothing “sources” than actually report specifics and facts. A rep for Clooney tells Gossip Cop exclusively the story about Obama recruiting the actor-director for a political run is “fabricated.”
