Syfy’s ’12 Monkeys’: Watch the First 9 Minutes

Syfy has high hopes for its 12 Monkeys adaptation.

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has released the first nine minutes of its highly anticipated adaptation of the Bruce Willis starrer.

Nikita's Aaron Stanford and SuitsAmanda Schull star in the drama based on Universal Pictures' Terry Gilliam film. In Plain Sight's Natalie Chaidez serves as showrunner on the drama about a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.

Feature film producer Atlas Entertainment is on board to executive produce the series. Charles Roven, who produced the film, will exec produce the series alongside Atlas' Richard Suckle and Jake KurilyTerry Matalas and Travis Fickett(Nikita) penned the pilot and will co-exec produce.Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) directed and exec produced the pilot. Noah Bean(Nikita) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe) co-star.

The series is one of Syfy's big swings as the cabler plots a return to its science fiction roots with shows including Dominion, Olympus, Z Nation, The Expanse, Childhood's End, Hunters, 3001: The Final Odyssey and Dark Matter, among others

12 Monkeys debuts Friday, Jan. 16 at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
