Selena Gomez Treated Like A Prop, Not A Person, By HollywoodLife

Anytime Selena Gomez does anything, HollywoodLife sensationalizes it. She cannot leave her house without HollywoodLife posting a conspiracy theory about it. In HollywoodLife’s eyes, Selena Gomez is not a person. She’s a prop in endless Justin Bieber drama. The site treats Gomez as though she’s incapable of doing anything that isn’t in service of a Bieber story.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, HollywoodLife posted a story about Gomez attending a baby shower for Yael Braun over the weekend. She was there with her Spring Breakers pal Ashley Benson and others. There was nothing weird about it. But HollywoodLife smells a story, because Yael is the wife of Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun.

The webloid asks of Bieber and Gomez, “Are they back together?” It continues, “Could they have rekindled their romance just in time for the celebration? Or, is Selena trying to get Justin’s attention by hanging out with his friends?” Later, HollywoodLife speculates, “It had to be a little awkward, no?” Then there’s this gem: “As HollywoodLife has been reporting recently, the couple are still broken up. Or are they?”

HollywoodLife doesn’t know whether Gomez and Bieber are together. It doesn’t know whether it was awkward. It doesn’t know… anything. All HollywoodLife knows is that any headline linking Gomez and Bieber, however uninformed, is a story.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday, HollywoodLife reported that Gomez went on a “dinner date” with her old “Wizards of Waverly Place” co-star David Henrie because she “wanted to make Justin Bieber jealous.” The site declares, “It looks like Selena is the one playing games now!” A made-up “source” tells HollywoodLife, “She’s just friends with David but Justin thinks they hook-up, so she’s trying to mess with his head.”

In other words, Gomez is not allowed to go out to dinner with a friend without HollywoodLife turning it into a story about jealousy and mind games. Also, what happened to HollywoodLife’s speculation less than two hours earlier that Gomez and Bieber might be back together? Why would she need to make him jealous?

Conclusion: HollywoodLife is a collection of clueless, contradictory stories that insult celebrities and the intelligence of readers. HollywoodLife will never break a story about either Bieber or Gomez. HollywoodLife has never broken a major story. HollywoodLife relies on cynical click-bait and should be treated with the same disdain Gomez has for it. Remember, this is the outlet Gomez recently said is “never true.”
