Nick Jonas teamed up with Demi Lovato for his new single “Avalanche,” which debuted on Thursday. For their duet, Jonas and Lovato explore a relationship that is at its breaking point. “I got pride you can’t hold your breath,” they sing on the emotional track. The chorus continues, “We’ll crash down like an avalanche. Look out now, don’t take one more step. We’ll crash down like an avalanche, avalanche.”
Jonas opened up about the song and his collaboration with Lovato in late October, telling MTV News, “This song, we just heard it and fell in love with it. I think in a strange way [it] embodied what we went through a couple of years ago, when she was going through a really tough time.” He explained that it is about a “relationship being on the verge of breaking down.” Jonas also complimented Lovato, saying, “She killed the vocals, and I knew immediately that it was the perfect song for us to do together.”
In early September, Lovato confirmed that she and Jonas had recorded a second duet called “Afterglow,” although there is no word when or if it will ever be released. “Avalanche” appears on Jonas’ self-titled album, which drops on November 11.
