Cable network Velocity has teamed with NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon and his longtime crew chief Ray Evernham to spotlight the restoration of their last championship winning car for an episode of Evernham's AmeriCarna.
Velocity, Barrett-Jackson and Jeff Gordon Inc. are set to make the announcement Thursday at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas that Gordon and Evernham will auction off a 1999 No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo used in their final season working together during the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in 2015. Gordon won inaugural Busch Series event at Phoenix International Raceway in 1999 driving the car.

The duo reunited to restore the vehicle to benefit Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation and pediatric cancer research, and their efforts will be shown during a special episode of AmeriCarna, the Velocity series that features Evernham traveling the country as he spotlights the impact that automobiles have played in American culture. The racecar is scheduled to go on the block at the Barrett Jackson Scottsdale auction on Jan. 13, also airing on Velocity.
Gordon and Evernharm reunited earlier this year to restore the vehicle exactly how it was set up for their final race and win together in Phoenix. The car features the original race-used chassis, a 358 C.I. V8 Hendrick Motorsports powerplant and four-speed manual transmission.
For his part, Gordon said he thought the time was right to sell the car for a charity that is "near and dear" to his heart. (Gordon actually got involved with the charity after Evernham's son, now 20, was diagnosed with leukemia when he was younger.)

"I held onto this car for a number of years knowing that one day there'd be a cool opportunity to do something with it," Gordon told The Hollywood Reporter. "We always knew this car was special. We had it not only the last time we worked together and won, but I also won my last nationwide race with it."
He added that after taking a closer look at the car, their original plan was revised. They decided to rip everything out and start completely over.
Evernham added that it was really important to them that the car feature the original parts and be restored to its original condition.

"Many parts from the last race are still on the car," he said. "Ultimately, it is in the same or better condition as when we last raced it. And it is 100 percent set up to go if you want to bring your helmet and firesuit."
The episode of AmeriCarna spotlighting the restoration airs in February.
