‘Under the Dome’ Duo Prepping Female Medical Drama for CBS

CBS is poised to explore the life of L.A.'s female director of public health.

The network is teaming with Under the Dome's Dan Truly and Neal Baer to develop an untitled drama exploring the weighty position, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama, which received a script commitment, centers on L.A.'s female director of public health, who handles everything from large-scale health scares from bad drugs or bio-terrorism to irate celebrities getting bad health ratings on their vanity restaurants.

Truly and Baer will pen the script and exec produce the CBS Television Studios drama. The duo previously worked together on CBS' summer hit Dome as well as NBC's Law & Order: SVU and CBS' short-lived A Gifted Man.

For ER alum Baer, this marks the Dome showrunner's third sale this development season. He's also teaming with Dome's Alexandra McNally for Windward Clinic, a Venice-set medical drama at CBS as well as with Desperate Housewives' Marc Cherry for a prep school drama at The CW. All three projects hail from CBSTVS, where Baer is under an overall deal.

Medical dramas continue to remain in high demand this development season. CBS also has Jason Katims' untitled Silicon Valley drama from Parenthood writer Sarah Watson; ABC has Family Practice from Dan Fogelman, among others.
