Mindy Kaling: I’m NOT Malala Yousafzai!

Mindy Kaling is a talented writer and performer known for “The Office” and her own series “The Mindy Project.” But she has not recently won the Nobel Peace Prize. That would be Malala Yousafzai, the teenage Pakistani activist for female education. But at a recent party, someone actually confused the two.

The New York Times reports that Kaling recently attended a late-night party at the Boom Boom Room in New York following an event at The New Yorker Festival when another guest made the mistake.

An older man described as “tipsy” cornered Kaling and began to compliment her, apparently under the impression she was Yousafzai. “Congratulations on your Nobel Prize,” he said, before telling Kaling how well she’d recovered from her injuries after being shot in the head by the Taliban.

After the man left, a stunned Kaling is quoted as asking, “Did he really think I’m Malala? And that if I were, I’d be at the Boom Boom Room?” She added, “That’s the best thing that’s happened all night.”

Cases of mistaken identity seem to follow Yousafzai around. Earlier this month, Naomi Campbell tried to congratulate her on Twitter, but accidentally tweeted, “Congratulations malaria on your #NoblePeacePrize #2014.” Oops.
