The Foo Fighters are about to release their eighth studio album and star in an HBO miniseries, but completing both projects at the same time was no easy task.

A preview has been released for the upcoming series Sonic Highways, which documents the band recording each song from the album of the same name in a different iconic recording studio across the U.S. In the video, the rockers talk openly about their difficult undertaking.

"To sequence a [TV] series around a sequence of an album and make them both work is a pain in f—ing the ass," frontman Dave Grohl admitted.

When one member pointed out that recording the album was like already having gone on a national tour, Grohl jokingly fired back: "We should just f—ing break up."

Recording the album ultimately ended up being a positive experience for the veteran group, and the show will feature appearances by such music luminaries as Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, LL Cool J and Slash. To promote the album and show, the Foos will perform on all five episodes of the Late Show this week.

In the preview, the band performs snippets of two new songs off the album.

Roswell Records/RCA Records releases Sonic Highways on Nov. 10, and the eight-episode HBO series premieres Oct.17. The video can be seen below.
