Fox's buzzy hospital drama is bringing in a new boss.

Singer-actress Mandy Moore has booked a major recurring guest role on Red Band Society, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Red Band Society, from ABC Studios, focuses on the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. The depth of the unexpected friendships allows them to survive the challenges of growing up under such challenging circumstances. Octavia Spencer stars as a snarky yet caring nurse alongside "hot doc" Dave Annable.

Moore (Saved, A Walk to Remember, Grey's Anatomy) will play Erin Grace, the chief of staff at Ocean Park Hospital, who also is Dr. McAndrew's (Annable) ex-fiancee.

"We're branching out to tell a soap on top of the patients with the hospital staff and we're adding new people," executive producer Rina Mimoun told The Hollywood Reporter, who said Moore's addition will also help add a soapy element to the hospital. "We focus on patients, but we're building out the adult storylines so we're following their stories as well."

For Moore, the role marks her return to TV after she starring in back-to-back CBS pilots — comedy Good Session and drama Advocates — neither of which moved forward. On the big screen, Moore's credits also include TangledLicense to Wed and episodes of Entourage. She's repped by WME, Untitled and Ziffren Brittenham.

Red Band Society premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
