Joan Rivers was reportedly put into a medically induced coma on Thursday after she went into cardiac arrest while undergoing a procedure at a doctor’s office.
Doctors expect to bring the 81-year-old comedy icon out of the coma over the weekend, according to the New York Daily News.
At that point, they can determine how much damage was caused by Rivers’ medical emergency.
Neither the coma nor Rivers’ exact condition has been confirmed yet by personnel at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Earlier on Thursday, a spokesperson for the facility told reporters, “Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”
New York Police Department officials described Rivers’ condition as “critical” when she was first rushed to Mount Sinai shortly after 9:30 in the morning.
Subsequent reports put her condition at either “critical but stable” or “stable.”
Rivers is said to have been visiting an outpatient medical office for problems relating to her vocal chords when disaster struck.
Her daughter and frequent on-screen collaborator Melissa flew from Los Angeles to New York as soon as news broke of Rivers’ emergency.
