"The Comeback"
HBO used Sunday's True Blood series finale to promote the return of one of its gone but never forgotten comedies: The Comeback.
The premium cable network looked to an iconic moment from the Lisa Kudrow comedy's 2005 pilot to preview the show's November revival.
In the 25-second "Paparazzi Tease," Kudrow's Valerie Cherish begs to get another take — which is fitting given the show's second season nearly 10 years after its cancellation.
The six-episode mockumentary will see Kudrow's central character has scored a job on an HBO series, with the cameras rolling again to document the experience. "The DNA that we liked about Valerie was her in front of a camera, unedited," co-creator Michael Patrick King told reporters in July. "This time we found a different way to get her in front of the camera."
The revived Comeback picks up 10 years after its first run and producers, including Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky, vowed the show would cater to both diehard fans and new viewers alike. "Oddly enough, we like the gap between the last season and this offering," King said. "It added to our grist to write with."
Season two, which has already wrapped filming and is now in post, was written by King, Kudrow, Amy B. Harris (The Carrie Diaries, Sex and the City) and John Riggi.
