Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is expected to hold off Guardians of the Galaxy — as well as three newcomers — to win its second straight weekend at the box office.
Early estimates put TMNT at approximately $26 million, slightly ahead of the $24 million Guardians is projected to earn.
Meanwhile, three heavily hyped debuts — The Expendables 3 ($17 million), Let’s Be Cops ($15 million) and The Giver ($13 million) — are expected to disappoint.
The Hundred-Foot Journey ($8 million) should battle Into the Storm ($7 million) for sixth place.
Lucy is on track for $5 million and the #8 spot.
Step Up All In ($3 million) should edge Get On Up ($2 million) for ninth place.
