Cassidy Stay, the 15-year-old girl who was the lone survivor of a massacre that left her parents and four siblings dead in suburban Houston earlier this week, appeared at a community gathering on Saturday to deliver a stunning message of strength and resilience in the wake of unimaginable tragedy.

The teenager left the hospital on Friday in “good condition” after sustaining a skull fracture when she was grazed by a bullet fired by Ronald Lee Haskell, who allegedly murdered Stephen and Katie Stay, Cassidy’s parents, as well as her four brothers and sisters in the family’s home.

Haskell was looking for his ex-wife, who is Katie’s sister.

Cassidy played dead and later called 911 to alert authorities to the situation, probably saving the lives of other family members.

On Saturday, she and her grandfather, Roger Lyons, spoke at a Celebration of Life event.

Quoting a Harry Potter passage, Cassidy told the crowd, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.’ I know that my mom, dad, Bryan, Emily, Becca and Zach are in a much better place and that I’ll be able to see them again one day.”

Her speech is definitely worth watching.
