Police in Barnet have launched an investigation after a 92-year-old veteran had his military medals stolen in a burglary on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The victim was at his home in the Whetstone area when a man claiming to represent a water company knocked on his door at around 9:25am on Friday 6 June and said he needed to check the water pressure in the property.
The 92-year-old veteran, who served in the Grenadier Guards during World War II, let the man in, who appeared to check the taps in the kitchen before leaving shortly afterwards.

Nothing else is thought to have been taken.
The man who entered the house is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build and spoke with an Irish accent.
