Could the X-Men join Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and DC’s Arrow on the small screen? A recent interview with X-Men: Days of Future Past writer and producer Simon Kinberg suggests that Fox may be considering the idea.
“We’re still in this place of figuring out what the future of the franchise will be,” Kinberg told Collider, “but when you look at SHIELD to some extent and what Marvel is doing now with Daredevil and other shows on Netflix, it makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV.”

Traditionally, the challenge has been the cost in making that happen, Kinberg explained. “I think what [executives are] seeing now is, with the proliferation of new kinds of visual and special effects, there’s a way to make these stories that don’t cost $300 million every time you have to make a huge movie,” he said.
Any Fox project wouldn’t be the first time Marvel’s mutant heroes have appeared on the small screen. In addition to multiple animated series, a pilot adapting the comic book series Generation X made it to air in February 1996, and five years later, Mutant X — a syndicated series produced by Marvel Studios without any involvement from Fox, due to it not being adapted from any existing X-Men property — debuted and ran for three years.
Whether on television or not, however, Kinberg said that we can expect to see more X-Men in Fox’s future. The studio “does understand that they are sitting on this massive universe with the X-Men,” he said. “There’s a real interest and appetite for how to explore and expand that world into other movies, into spinoffs, into different time periods, the whole gamut.”
