Jill Kargman to Star in Bravo Scripted Comedy Satire Series (Exclusive)

Bravo is continuing its push into original scripted programming.

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has given the green light to Odd Mom Out, an original comedy series starring author/fashionista Jill Kargman, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The single-camera series is expected to be included in Bravo's upfront presentation announcement Tuesday morning.

The series hails from Left/Right (Mob Wives) with co-presidents Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver on board to executive produce alongside Kargman and Piro Vision's Tim Piper and Daniel Rosenberg.

Odd Mom Out is based on Kargman's life and captures the outrageous world of uber-wealthy "momzillas" of New York's Upper East Side. Kargman will star and play a version of herself negating a world that has become so elite, hip and trendy that she's now the odd mom out. The comedy is based on her novel Momzillas (Doubleday/Broadway), which was published in 2007. A premiere date as well as exact episode count have not yet been determined.

"Jill's unique ability to satirize the very exclusive, ridiculously competitive and highly entertaining world of Manhattan's momzillas makes Odd Mom Out the perfect series to expand Bravo's slate of scripted programming."

For her part, Kargman is a best-selling author whose works include The Ex-Mrs. Hedgefund, Arm Candy and The Rock Star in Seat 3A. Kargman and writing partner Carrie Karasyov co-wrote the 2000 Sundance film Intern. Their novel Wolves in Chic Clothing has been optioned. On the freelance side, Kargman has written episdoes of MTV's Ultrasound and So Five Minutes Ago. She's written magazine articles for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Interview and more.

Odd Mom Out becomes Bravo's second original scripted drama series and first half-hour series. The cable network in February handed out a series order to Marti Noxon's (Buffy the Vampire SlayerGirlfriends' Guide to Divorce, starring House's Lisa Edelstein. The cabler picked up 13 episodes of the hourlong dramedy set to bow in 2015. Based on the book series by Vicki Iovine, Girlfriends was originally developed for Showtime as a half-hour series.
