Elton John and David Furnish plan to marry in May.
The longtime couple, who entered into a British civil partnership in 2005, can now legally wed in England — and intend to do so.
“We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation,” Furnish tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We all live by example.”
The couple has added two sons to their family in recent years, and Furnish says he suspects they’ll have a quieter ceremony than people might expect.
“With the kids, everything is different,” he explains. “I think what we’ll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses.”
