Justin Bieber and Usher have beaten a $10 million lawsuit that claimed they stole the song “Somebody to Love.”
The plaintiffs, Devin Copeland and Mareio Overton, had alleged that they wrote a similar track in 2008, two years before Bieber recorded the Usher-penned version for his 2010 album My World 2.0.
There were subsequently two remixes of the Bieber-Usher song, which were also included in the lawsuit.
But on Friday, a judge dismissed their claim.
According to THR, Judge Arenda Allen determined that the plaintiffs’ song and the Bieber-Usher song could not be “reasonably construed as being substantially similar.”
“Although the accused songs have some elements in common with Plaintiffs’ song, their mood, tone, and subject matter differ significantly,” ruled Judge Allen.
