Girls fans at the University of Iowa shouldn't expect to see Lena Dunham filming the HBO show on campus.
Although Dunham's character is headed to the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, the series' request to film part of that storyline at the school was denied.
The decision was made by the university's vice president of strategic communication, who felt the storyline would portray the school in a negative way.

“After reviewing the script, I felt the storyline placed the city and university in an unfavorable light, and considering the potential for disruption, I made the decision to deny the request,” Brennan told the Iowa City Press Citizen. “I won’t share details as I don’t think it fair to reveal the plot in advance. I understand this is a popular show, but it’s my job to safeguard the reputation of the university.”
Season 3 of the HBO series ended with Dunham's Hannah Horvath being accepted to the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
HBO has not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment.
