The CW Acquires ‘Labyrinth’ Miniseries

The CW is jumping into the miniseries game.

The network has acquired the four-hour period mini, Labyrinth, starring Downton Abbey alum Jessica Brown-Findlay, The CW announced Wednesday afternoon.

Veteran actor John Hurt; Sebastian Stan, who returns to The CW (he recurred on Gossip Girl); and Tom Felton also star in the mini. Janet Suzman, Claudia Gerini, Katie McGrath, Emun Elliott and Tony Curran also co-star. A premiere date will be announced later.

Labyrinth, based on the novel by Kate Mosse, will shift back and forth in between two different time periods: one set in medieval France and the other in modern day. The mini centers on two women separated by centuries, but are reunited in a search for the Holy Grail.

Brown-Findlay will play 17-year-old Alais, who is given a book by her father that includes the Grail.

The mini was filmed in Carcassonne in southwest France and Cape Town.

Labyrinth hails from the team from Pillars of the Earth, Tandem Communications, with Scott Free Films, Universal Production Partners and Film Afrika. Adrian Hodges adapted the novel, with Moritz Polter producing. Christopher Smith is directing.

The other four broadcast networks all have minis on the slate.
