Jason Russell Will Be Hospitalized for “Weeks” Following Naked Meltdown

(TMZ)

“Kony 2012″ mastermind Jason Russell’s naked meltdown on the streets of San Diego was the result of “brief reactive psychosis,” according to a new statement issued by the family of the Invisible Children co-founder.

Last week, Russell was videotaped ranting nude just days after his “Kony 2012″ project went super-viral, leading authorities to take him into custody on a 5101 psychiatric hold and his wife Danica to explain the bizarre behavior as the result of “exhaustion and dehydration.”

A statement released on Wednesday says Russell suffered “psychosis,” and that he’ll be hospitalized for several weeks.

“The preliminary diagnosis he received is called brief reactive psychosis, an acute state brought on by extreme exhaustion, stress and dehydration,” reads the statement.

It continues, “Though new to us, the doctors say this is a common experience given the great mental, emotional and physical shock his body has gone through in these last two weeks.”

“He is, and will remain, under hospital care for a number of weeks; and after that, the recovery process could take months before he is fully able to step back into his role with Invisible Children,” adds the statement.

The release again emphasizes that Russell’s incident “was in no way the result of drugs or alcohol in his body.”
