On October 6, Newtown voted to accept the state's $50 million grant to build a new Sandy Hook school. More than 4,500 of 5,000 voters said 'yes' to tearing down the school and rebuilding it in the same location.
All construction workers for the contractor who received the bid to demolish Sandy Hook elementary were required to sign nondisclosure agreements, strictly forbidding them from talking to the media about the demolition or personally removing any materials from the site.

The opening of the new school is slated for spring 2016, according to town officials.
