LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Transforming into Walt Disney was no easy task for Tom Hanks, but getting the Disney icon’s mustache just right might have been one of the most difficult tasks while filming “Saving Mr. Banks.”

Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover sat down with Tom, where he explained just how he got Walt’s trademark look down.

“I don’t have the same facial structure as Mr. Disney had, so the mustache had to have a particular angle to it, it couldn’t be too wide, but it couldn’t be too narrow,” he explained. “It had to have a certain amount of skin between the mustache and the bottom of my nose.”

The intricacies of the ‘stache didn’t stop there!

”[The creative team had] close up, blown up like spy photographs of Walt Disney’s face with arrows and measurements and graphics,” he explained. “Like a scale of hair per centimeter kind of thing. It was a very important mustache.”

Adding, “It was the most analyzed, discussed [mustache], short of getting memos from upstairs in Disney. This was the most important mustache in the history of mankind!”

But how did wife Rita Wilson feel about her husband’s new facial hair?

“She put up with it,” Tom told Billy and Kit.

After filming had wrapped and Tom was told there would be no re-shoots, he ditched the look.

“As soon as we got the report from the lab that the [film] negative didn’t have any scratches on it. Off it went!” he said.
