‘Almost Human’: Fox Releases First 8 Minutes of Premiere

Fox has released the first eight minutes of the Almost Human premiere.

From J.J. Abrams and Fringe's J.H. Wyman, the futuristic sci-fi drama takes place in 2048, when Los Angeles Police Department officers are partnered with human-like androids.

In the extended first look, Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) is assigned one of those androids on his first day back out on the job. But he tells his boss, Captain Maldonado (Lili Taylor), that he's not "driving with one of those things." (To say he's not fond of his new partner is an understatement.) Maldonado reveals to Kennex that wasn't cleared for active duty following the devastating police ambush -- "Kennex should return ... never," she rattles off -- that left him with a litany of issues he's still recovering from (PTSD, depression, etc.).

But on to the task at hand. Maldonado informs Kennex of a recent rampage that links back to the ambush he was the lone survivor of, immediately sparking his interest. The common thread? A dangerous group named Syndicate and Myklon red. There may also be a traitor in their midst.

During the preview, we also meet Valerie Stahl (Minka Kelly) and tech genius Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook), who Kennex goes to for a new replacement synthetic after his other one fell out of a moving car. That's when he meets Dorian (Michael Ealy). "Wait a minute, that's one of the crazy ones!" Kennex says at first sight.
