‘Ray Bradbury’ Viral Sensation Sells Musical Comedy to Showtime

Showtime is going into business with the star of viral video "F--- Me, Ray Bradbury."

The cable network is developing Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a half-hour comedy from Rachel Bloom with musical elements about a girl who upends her life to stalk an ex.

Bloom, whose 2010 musical YouTube ode to the sci-fi legend (below) has more than 2.1 million hits, will write the script for CBS Television Studios and executive produce alongside Aline Brosh McKenna.

In addition to her series of award-winning YouTube shorts, the L.A.-based comedian-actress-writer-singer Bloom's TV writing credits include Robot Chicken and Allen Gregory; acting work includes How I Met Your Mother and The CW's webseries Gallery Mallory. Bloom has also written and started in two live musical sketch comedy shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in L.A. and New York.

For Brosh McKenna, her work on Crazy is in addition to Disney's live-action Cruella feature with Andrew Gunn and Glenn Close and she has two films in production, including Sony's Annie and Disney's new version of Cinderella. Her credits include The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses. Brosh McKenna is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson. Bloom is with UTA, 3 Arts and Ginsburg Daniels.

For Showtime, Crazy marks the latest in the premium cable network's big comedy push. In addition to returning series House of Lies, Californication, Nurse Jackie, Episodes and Web Therapy, the cabler has comedy pilot Trending Down starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Kathryn Hahn.
