The annual celebration is now in its historic 90th year. The tradition dates back to the 1920s, and is seen by many as the kick-off of the Christmas holiday season. This time around, more than 3.5 million spectators are expected to line the streets of Manhattan to watch 8,000 volunteers lead balloons and floats around the city.
In honor of the parade’s milestone anniversary, part of the event will pay tribute to years past. But, of course, there will also be some new sights. That includes a Trolls-themed balloon, a Girl Scouts-inspired float, and a new version of Charlie Brown flying high in the sky.
More than a dozen celebrities are slated to participate in the festivities. That includes the star-studded cast of NBC’s upcoming “Hairspray Live!” musical, Tony Bennett, Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Eldredge, Aloe Blacc, and Daya. Also signed up to take part are Beyonce proteges Chloe x Halle, Regina Spektor, Maddie & Tae, and Fitz & the Tantrums, among others.
Olympic gold medalist and newly-crowned “Dancing with the Stars” champion Laurie Hernandez will be on hand, too, as will “America’s Got Talent” winner Grace Vanderwaal. On NBC, the three-hour broadcast will be co-hosted by Matt Lauer, Al Roker, and Savannah Guthrie of the “Today” show. It’s all scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Eastern. Stay tuned for the live stream!
