Laurie Hernandez won Season 23 of “Dancing With The Stars” with her partner Val Chmerkovskiy. The pair was crowned this season’s champions and awarded the Mirror Ball Trophy on Tuesday’s results show. See the video below of Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy winning “Dancing With The Stars.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Monday’s finals featured James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess, Calvin Johnson and Lindsay, and Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy each performing a redemption routine and a freestyle dance. The Olympic gold medalist once again proved her dominance on the dancefloor, receiving a total of 0f 38 out of 40 points from the judges for her paso doble redemption routine. And her second dance, a flawless freestyle, prompted Carrie Ann Inaba to declare, “You brought tears to my eyes.” And Bruno Tonioli exclaimed that Hernandez’s dancing was both “joyful” and “fantastic.”
But Hernandez wasn’t the only competitor to earn a perfect score for her freestyle. As Gossip Cop noted, both Johnson and Hinchcliffe also received 40 out of 40 points for their dances. But on Tuesday, Johnson was the first finalist eliminated. In the end, Hernandez won, and Hinchcliffe was the runner-up.
Not only were Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy among the highest scorers week after week with the judges, but they were also clearly fan favorites and frontrunners from early on in the competition. Before Tuesday’s finale, “Dancing With The Stars” saw the eliminations of Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchencko, Terra Jole and Sasha Farber, Marilu Henner and Derek Hough, Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke, Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev, Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Babyface Edmonds and Allison Holker, Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson, Rick Perry and Emma Slater, and Jake Austin and Jenna Johnson.
