The series stars Elijah Wood and Samuel Barnett.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is staying open for business.
BBC America has renewed the series for a second season, it was announced Monday.
Based on the novels by Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams, the series is described as a "serialized comedic thriller" following the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd (Elijah Wood), as they weave their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.
The ten-episode second season will bow in 2017. The season one finale airs Dec. 10 at 9 p.m.
“Outlandishly different, Dirk Gently has hit a sweet spot with BBCA fans," BBC America president Sarah Barnett said. "With Elijah Wood and Samuel Barnett's chemistry as oddball detective/sidekick duo, and our creators promising ever greater genius-weird cosmic mystery in the next case, we're happy to announce more of this truly original and entertaining show."
Max Landis (American Ultra, Chronicle) penned the adaptation and exec produces with Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis), Arvind Ethan David, Zainir Aminullah, Ted Adams, David Ozer, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is co-produced by AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment, with Circle of Confusion producing for BBC America.
