Friday isn't the most exciting night of the broadcast week, but this one brought two new series premieres — CBS' MacGyver reboot and Fox's serialized spin on horror classic The Exorcist.

There's no question which of the two came out on top. MacGyver averaged a solid 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 10.9 million viewers. While the score in the demo might be a little lackluster in the middle of the week, it's very impressive when opening a Friday night. CBS' new drama even managed to outperform every other broadcast series for the night, among both adults 18-49 and total viewers.

The Exorcist bowed to less promising scores, averaging a 1.0 rating in the key demo and 2.9 million viewers. Both numbers have it currently ranking as the softest live-plus-same day premiere of the season. Its lead-in, Hell's Kitchen, performed slightly better for Fox with a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers.

Top honors of Friday typically go to ABC's Shark Tank, but the reality competition was down sharply from its year ago premiere. It sank 45 percent among adults 18-49 to 1.1 rating. Elsewhere on ABC, the new seasons of Last Man Standing and Dr. Ken opened with respective scores of a 1.1 and 0.9 rating among adults 18-49.

Good news for MacGyver meant good news for its lead-outs. Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods each averaged a 1.3 rating in the key demo to share second-place status for the night.
