The CBS reality show jumps, thanks in some part to local preseason preemptions, as summer continues to wind down.

Well, there won't be another Thursday that quiet for some time.

Though not officially the end of the summer, the first night of September was also the final Thursday before the return of the regular NFL season. The 2016 calendar kicks off next Thursday, Sept. 8, with the Panthers and the Broncos on NBC.

In the meantime, CBS got in one last win with Big Brother — and some preseason pigskins. The show jumped more than 20 percent from last Thursday for a summer high 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers.

Local NFL preemptions in some CBS markets (and other nets) mean those scores are subject to adjustment — but the network's nightly win with the reality show is not.

The lone competition came from ABC, which aired back-to-back episodes of Battle Bots (1.3 adults).
