Steele had recurred since season two of the flagship series as Eli Gold's daughter, Marissa.

CBS All Access' Good Wife spinoff is starting to take shape.

Fan favorite Sarah Steele, who playes Marissa Gold on the flagship series, has signed on as a series regular on the digital edition, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

In addition, the plot of the still-untitled spinoff has been revealed: The series will center around an enormous financial scam that has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, Diane (Christine Baranski) joins Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.

Marissa will figure into the spinoff as Diane's secretary-turned-investigator. After being introduced in season two as the daughter of Peter's campaign manager Eli Gold (Alan Cumming), Marissa went onto become an important part of Alicia's life in later seasons, most notably during Alicia's run for state's attorney in season six. Steele recurred on 22 episodes of The Good Wife. She is also known for her roles in Nurse Jackie and Gossip Girl.

Steele is the first cast member to come onboard since the spinoff was announced in May during CBS' Upfront presentation with Baranski and Jumbo attached. Steele's casting was first reported by TVLine.

The addition of Steele and the plot reveal come days after CBS All Access pushed up the premiere of The Good Wife spinoff to February while subsequently pushing the premiere of the streamer's other forthcoming originals scripted series Star Trek: Discovery, from January to May. The first episode of The Good Wife spinoff will now premiere on the broadcaster before moving to CBS All Access.

It was also announced earlier this week that Good Wife co-creators Robert and Michelle King have come onboard the spinoff as showrunners.

The Kings co-wrote the premiere episode with Phil Alden Robinson, who directed several episodes during The Good Wife's final season. The three will exec produce the series, which will kick off with a 10-episode first season, with Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer and Brooke Kennedy. The series hails from CBS Television Studios in association with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions.
