“So You Think You Can Dance” named the first-ever winner of “The Next Generation” competition on Monday. Find out who won below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, FOX and head judge Nigel Lythgoe shook up the series for season 13. Instead of featuring contestants over the age of 18, the show went in the opposite direction. Only aspiring dancers between the ages of 8 and 13 were eligible, and thousands auditioned at casting calls throughout the country.
But that wasn’t the only twist. After making it through the initial auditions, the contestants had to impress the “All-Stars” of “SYTYCD.” That is, alumni of the series who would be participating this season as mentors and partners.
Initially, each All-Star could choose five contestants to work with during the “Dance Academy.” But by the end of the mini-bootcamp, the pros had to eliminate every dancer on their team but one. That resulted in a Top 10 and set up the pairings for the live episodes.
Since then, one contestant and their All-Star have been eliminated each week, up until the Top 4. And last week, the final four had their last chance to earn America’s vote. The prize at stake: $250,000, a cover shoot for Dance Spirit magazine and the coveted title of “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
And so tonight, after a jam-packed final episode filled with special performances, host Cat Deeley revealed the results everyone was waiting for. Would the winner be Tate (age 12, contemporary with All-Star Kathryn McCormick), Kida (age 13, hip-hop with All-Star Fik Shun), JT (age 10, contemporary with All-Star Robert Roldan), or Emma (age 10, tap with All-Star and reigning “SYTYCD” winner Gabby Diaz)?!
Well… Emma took fourth place, while Tate finished in third. That left it between the two guys, JT and Kida. And KIDA WON! Check out full video of the winner announcement below!
