A story about George Clooney supporting Brad Pitt in the wake of his divorce from Angelina Jolie was seemingly made up. Gossip Cop can reveal what’s going on.
As Gossip Cop reported, it was announced on Tuesday that Pitt and Jolie are divorcing after two years of marriage and more than 10 years together. The news prompted HollywoodLife to do what it usually does when there’s a hot topic: Start running false stories related to the subject at hand. That’s why, on Tuesday evening, there was this “exclusive” headline: “Brad Pitt: George Clooney Urging Him To ‘Do Whatever He Can To Save His Marriage.'”
A so-called “source” was quoted as telling the outlet, “Brad is leaning on George for support right now.” The site’s alleged tipster went on to say, “He’s been advising Brad to do whatever he can to save the marriage. He thinks their marriage can be saved.”
The article very much implies Clooney was well-aware that Jolie and Pitt were divorcing. But that’s not true. The actor was actually blindsided with the news by a CNN reporter, a video clip of which only circulated after HollywoodLife ran its support story. And during the taped exchange, Clooney admitted he had no idea about their split.
“I didn’t know that,” he said, going on to note, “That’s the first I’ve heard of it.” So, then, how did HollywoodLies get the notion that Pitt has been “leaning on” Clooney during this time? Well, the site was either told made-up information from its “source,” or outright fabricated the details itself.
Either way, what we have here is a blatantly untrue story. And it comes after HollywoodLife already lied about Pitt and Jolie adopting a seventh child to save their marriage. Gossip Cop has long recommended that readers don’t get their celebrity news from the bad blog. That’s especially important now given this off-base Brangelina coverage.
