The Exorcist Escape Room Experience will run from Sept. 23-25 at the Escape Hotel Hollywood.
Fox is shaking things up – literally – to promote its reboot of The Exorcist.
The network is teaming with Escape Hotel Hollywood for an immersive escape room experience inspired by the upcoming series that will feature earthquake simulations and, yes, real exorcisms, as teased in the promo photo above.
Opening Friday, Sept. 23, the same day as The Exorcist's premiere, The Exorcist Escape Room Experience will take participants through six rooms as previewed below – the church, the priest's office, the attic, the room of a mysterious and religious woman, the room of a possessed boy as well as a secret room where individuals will be able to take themed photos before moving onto the next part of the game. The 45-minute encounter will culminate in an exorcism occurring, according to Fox, "before their very eyes."
The increasing level of intensity and effects that occur in each room, the interactions between guests and performers, and the order in which the triggers are discovered will dictate how the experience evolves for each group.
In addition to the fake earthquakes, the experience boasts other special effects like demonic sounds, as well as puzzles and gadgets.
The experience will run from Friday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 25 from noon to midnight. Up to 20 guests will be permitted at a time, and complimentary tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis by visiting Escape Hotel Hollywood. (A limited number of walk-in tickets will be available on site. Guests must check-in 30 minutes before their scheduled game.)
Each guest will also receive a limited-edition Exorcist Escape Room Experience passport during the opening weekend.
This is the latest splashy stunt Fox has rolled out to promote the upcoming series, which centers on a mother (Geena Davis) who enlists the help of two priests, Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) and Marcus Brennan (Ben Daniels), to rid her daughter of possession.
At Comic-Con in July, Fox staged in downtown San Diego to raise awareness for the series, which like the famed 1973 film, is inspired by William Blatty's book of the same name. Exec producers of the series, which include Jeremy Slater, Rolin Jones, Rupert Wyatt, Roy Lee, James Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall, say they've also pulled from modern day exorcisms for the psychological thriller.
The Exorcist premieres Friday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
