Comedy Central is moving more into the talk space — this time with comedian Moshe Kasher.
The network has given the greenlight to Problematic with Moshe Kasher after first ordering a pilot presentation back in April. A weekly series, taped in front of a live studio audience, it will feature Kasher tackling polarizing topics in a talk format.
Set for a 2017 launch, the series is executive produced by Kasher Alex Blagg, Jason Nadler and Jon Zimelis — as well as 3 Arts Entertainment's Dave Becky and Josh Lieberman. “I see myself as the Phil Donahue of the Internet Age except not as funny or dialed into millennial culture,” said Kasher. “This show will create a safe space for offensive comedy and more importantly engender conversations that will completely end all acrimony, racism, sexism, trolling and whatever else you find offensive online once and for all. I promise."
Added Comedy Central president Kent Alterman, "“We’re gratified to know we will be living in a utopian society by season three."
Kasher is a familiar face on Comedy Central. On top of stand-up specials, he has a recurring role on sitcom Another Period. His writing credits also include Another Period, The New Normal and 2015's Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber.
A weekly talker is nothing new for Comedy Central. Both Not Safe With Nikki Glaser and Tosh.0 fit that mold, but the network did just trim its lineup of daily efforts. The cancelation of The Nightly Show leaves The Daily Show and @midnight as the network's efforts that air multiple times in a week.
