Was Barbara Walters really not invited to “The View” 20th season premiere? Gossip Cop looked into the claim and can reveal the truth.
The allegation can be found in the pages of the National Enquirer. In a pieced headlined “Barbara Walters’ Limited View,” the supermarket tabloid says, “Move over, Rodney Dangerfield — Barbara Walters created ‘The View’ and gets no respect!” The magazine claims, “The show returned for its landmark 20th season, but Babs was barred from the on-set festivities!”
“They didn’t invite her to be part of the big 20th launch on the set,” a so-called “source” alleges. “She has been totally cut out of the show she created — after she told her shares in the program to ABC!” But contrary to this story’s claims, Walters has hardly been shut out of the talk show.
A rep exclusively tells Gossip Cop, “Of course it’s not true.” The spokesperson notes that “respect was paid” to Walters on the show, and she’s always invited back whenever she wants. It seems like the National Enquirer just jumped to the wrong conclusions.
It wouldn’t be the first time. Over the years, the outlet has wrongly connected a slew of people to the show, such as Maria Shriver, Ali Wentworth, and Chelsea Clinton, as potential co-hosts. Just like those misguided claims, this new one about Walters’ relationship with the program is similarly off-base.
