Whoopi Goldberg slammed the Daily Mail on Wednesday for a report claiming she’s to blame for Paula Faris getting demoted on “The View.” The show’s longtime moderator is categorically denying the allegations and ripping the British paper.
On Tuesday, the Daily Mail published a story online with the headline, “EXCLUSIVE: ‘This is a bunch of bull – it’s Whoopi’s doing.’ The View host Paula Faris is cut to one day a week and blames nemesis Goldberg in dressing room meltdown.” The story claimed Faris is “seeing red and vowing to get revenge on the show’s moderator” after allegedly being cut down from five-day appearances to just one a week.
A so-called “insider” was quoted as saying, “She is adamant that the network bowed to pressure from Whoopi to get rid of Paula as part of her negotiations to return for Season 20… She kept saying: ‘She’ll regret what she did to me, I promise you that.'” The piece went on to allege Goldberg “has made no secrets about not liking Faris,” claiming “Goldberg regularly has had on-air spats with Faris, making disgusted faces and even covering her face with her dreadlocks when Faris says things she doesn’t like.”
But in a series of tweets sent Wednesday morning, Goldberg took issue with many of the allegations. “Contrary to what u might read in the I do NOT run ABC nor do I own or produce, not involved in hiring4 the View so don’t send ur resumes,” she began. “I’m not responsible 4 firing or moving people around or negotiating my coworkers contracts. I LIKE having a gig and as much as I’d like to rule the entire universe, I have enough to do in my life than to take mean girl pleasure at some one else WRONGLY perceived change.”
Goldberg continued, “Also daily mail knowing that people talk A lot do you honestly think I would talk or act in such a way that would give u ANY ability to know anything I think?? No daily mail I wouldn’t, so if your going to continue to accuse me of doing this kind of thing could you make something someone my age would do.”
“For goodness sake the only botch fest is the one in talks minds,” Goldberg concluded, adding, “No fight here just clearing up an untruth.” For her part, Faris touched on the issue when a fan tweeted, “I really enjoy journalist –>@paulafaris being part of @TheView and hope she’s in season 20. I don’t put much stock in the Daily Mail rag.” Faris responded, “It’s basically equivalent to bottom feeding journalism. Glad you’re intelligent enough to see that.”
