Usain Bolt and Team Jamaica won gold in the 4x100M relay at the Rio Olympics on Friday. Watch below!
The 4x100M relay requires four-member teams to race around the track, with each runner taking a 100-meter stretch. The sprinters are required to pass batons to one another, and the anchor is expected to go all-out for the win. And it was no surprise that Bolt was the go-to guy for Jamaica and his team mates, Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, and Nickel Ashmeade.
He helped achieve the gold, and made history in the process. After coming in first place in the 4x100M relay in 2008 and 2012, Bolt is now the only athlete to do so again in a third consecutive Olympics. What’s more, though, is that the superstar athlete is 3-for-3 three times over, competing a so-called “triple triple.”
He now has a record total of nine gold medals in track, tying only two other athletes. Bolt won gold in the 100-meter race for the third time last Sunday. And then Bolt won gold in the 200-meter run for the third time on Thursday, as Gossip Cop reported. And he could now be going out on the highest of highs.
That’s because while the 4x100M relay was his last event of the 2016 games, it may have also been Bolt’s last-ever as an Olympian, period. Widely considered the world’s fastest runner, Bolt has indicated that he doesn’t plan on competing in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. That, of course, could change over the next four years, though.
