Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered its new trailer during the 2016 Rio Olympics on Thursday. Watch the action-packed movie preview below!

The highly-anticipated sci-fi epic is the first spinoff in a planned series of standalone Star Wars films, and takes place between the events of Episode III: Revenge of The Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. The plot focuses on Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), a Rebellion soldier who embarks on a mission alongside other resistance fighters to steal the plans for the Death Star. The cast of the film also includes Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and James Earl Jones, who reprises his iconic role as Darth Vader.

Rogue One comes on the heels of last year’s The Force Awakens, which earned more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office and stands as the highest-grossing domestic film of all time. It remains to be seen if Rogue One can mimic that kind of success. Following the spinoff’s release, the Star Wars universe continues with Episode VIII in 2017, and a currently untitled May 2018 standalone film that will center around the adventures of a young Han Solo. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16. Watch the new trailer that premiered during the Rio Olympics below!
