Simone Biles won the gold medal in the women’s individual all-around final in gymnastics at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Thursday. Watch the exciting video below!
Team USA’s star athlete, who’s just 4 feet 9 inches tall, continued her incredible winning streak with her day six victory, during which she showed off her exceptional skills on the balance beam, floor, uneven bars and vault. Rio marks Biles first Olympics, but she’s already being considered by many to be one of the best gymnasts of all-time. In her biggest Olympics competition yet, the 19-year-old defeated 23 other competitors for the individual all-around title, including fellow American Aly Raisman, who placed in second and took the silver.
After the vault, Biles was in first place. But following the uneven bars, the favorite had fallen to second place. Biles then nailed the balance beam to regain the lead. The fourth and final event was the floor exercise. And not surprisingly, Biles outdid the competition, which secured her the gold medal.
As Gossip Cop reported, Biles helped lead the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to win a gold medal during the team all-around finals on Tuesday. As amazing as that feat was, scoring the gold in an individual gymnastics event is considered an even bigger accomplishment, and Biles now has a gold medal of her very own.
Biles’ win marks the fourth straight Olympic gold medal for the U.S. in this event, following victories by Carly Patterson in 2004, Nastia Liukin in 2008 and Gabby Douglas in 2012.
